The track is not just where the race happens.

It is part of the race itself.

No two paths around a racecourse are equal. A horse travelling wide around a turn covers more ground. A horse forced into inferior lanes may lose traction or momentum. A horse asked to accelerate around a bend may spend more energy than one balanced into clear air at the right time.

Traditional form often treats these effects as incidental.

Sectional Forensics treats them as measurable performance costs.

Every metre travelled has a cost. Every lane can carry a different energy profile. Every bend changes balance and propulsion. Rail position, surface condition, wind, moisture, lane usage and track pattern can all influence how efficiently speed is produced.

This is why track geometry matters.

A horse that looks beaten on margin may have produced hidden merit if it was forced into a high-cost path. A horse that wins impressively may have been assisted by the most efficient part of the track.

The question is not just how fast the horse ran.

The question is how much it cost the horse to run that fast.
